  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The English forward has had a dream start to the new season, having scored six Premier League goals in 11 appearances as Brighton find themselves sixth in the league table. After years of struggling for consistency at Arsenal and Watford, the 33-year-old has got his career back on track since joining the Seagulls in 2020.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Last month, The Athletic reported that former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wanted to sign Welbeck in the summer to solve their crisis in attack. However, the club never made an offer for the striker due to the uncertainty surrounding the Dutchman's future and the backroom restructure that took place in the summer, which delayed United's recruitment plans.

  • WHAT DANNY WELBECK SAID

The ex-United star has now responded to the links back to Old Trafford and revealed if he plans to leave Brighton any time soon. Speaking to The Times, the forward said: "I'm just focusing on what I can control myself and all the other stuff is pretty irrelevant."
