The striker still has one and a half years left in his existing contract but the reigning Italian champions want to continue their association with the player beyond 2025.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking to <a href="https://www.goal.com/it/liste/de-laurentiis-annuncia-rinnovo-osimhen-siamo-alla-firma/blt29da619626ddefd9#cs90085d7c00c22555" target="_blank">reporters</a> at an award function, the Napoli chief said, "For Osimhen we are at the signing stage which had been pending since the summer."

Osimhen, who has netted six times for his club in 12 appearances this season, saw his relationship soured with napoli after the club <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/victor-osimhen-breaks-silence-napoli-tiktok-video-controversy-strong-statement-future-chelsea-transfer/bltc1c3e7efab17b053" target="_blank">uploaded a video to their TikTok page</a> that mocked him. The Nigerian was linked with big money move to the Saudi Pro League during the summer but it did not materialise as the player rejected the move and decided to stay.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 24-year-old returned to action against Atalanta last week after sitting out with a thigh injury for almost a month. He again missed the Champions League clash against Real Madrid earlier this week but is likely to feature for his club on Sunday as they take on league leaders Inter in a crucial Serie A clash.
