Chelsea lose 4-1 against Arsenal
James stamps on Arsenal's Walti in second half
Lucky to not be shown red card
WHAT HAPPENED?
As Chelsea suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal, James let her frustrations boil over as she clearly stamped on Walti's foot, after having given away a free-kick. Emma Hayes' side were lucky to not go down to ten players as the referee believed the offence was only worth a yellow card for the Lionesses star. James had a similar incident with England at the 2023 Women's World Cup, when she was sent off for stamping on Nigeria's Michelle Alozie, who was already on the ground.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The loss was Chelsea's first of the season after they had gone unbeaten through their opening 10 games in all competitions. Arsenal now sit in second place in the WSL table on equal points with James' side, who still occupy top spot thanks to their superior goal difference.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?
The Blues will feel lucky to retain James for their next clash against Bristol City on Sunday, December 17 as they will look to re=establish the gap to Arsenal, who will next take on Tottenham in a crucial derby clash.
