Bundesliga star rushed to hospital for surgery on facial injuries after horrifying attack in Berlin bar

The Morocco international went for an outing in Berlin on Saturday night and visited a bar where he was brutally attacked and physically assaulted. The 25-year-old suffered facial injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery on Sunday, as confirmed by his club.

The official statement from Hertha read, "We were horrified to learn yesterday that Aymen Barkok was physically attacked in a Berlin bar during the night from Saturday to Sunday and had to be taken to hospital with facial injuries.

"Aymen had a successful operation yesterday, Sunday, but will not be available to us for the time being. We wish you a speedy recovery, Aymen! We are thinking of you."

Born in Frankfurt, Barkok graduated from Eintracht's academy before making his senior debut for the club in 2016. In 2022, he joined fellow Bundesliga side Mainz before being transferred to Hertha on loan during the January transfer window.

The club confirmed that the player had a successful surgery, however, he is unlikely to feature for the club again in the remainder of the season.
