  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Brighton fans were subjected to sickening attacks by Roma fans during the Europa League encounter on Thursday, which the Serie A side won 4-0. A group of Brighton fans had been attacked on Wednesday evening, with two ending up in hospital after being stabbed by hooligans in Rome.

    At the Stadio Olimpico trouble continued as Roma fans, per a Brighton statement, threw various items at supporters in the away end.

    Brighton's statement read: "We are aware of the bottles, coins and lighters being thrown by home supporters into the away end. We have reported to UEFA and Italian Police and requested immediate action be taken."

    Brighton fans were advised by the club not to wear their colours in the city, for fear of violence from Roma ultras. Both supporters who were stabbed have now been discharged from hospital, per talkSPORT.

    Brighton will hope UEFA are strong in their punishment of Roma. In the meantime, they will have to recover from a bruising loss - which effectively ends their European dream - quickly, as they face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.
