  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Lilly-whites are winless in their last five fixtures, which has seen them drop to fifth in the league. Their last victory was against Crystal Palace at the end of October, and since their morale-boosting 3-3 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad they have suffered defeats against Chelsea, Wolves, Aston Villa, and West Ham. Their defeat to David Moyes' side meant they became the first Premier League team in history to fail to win five consecutive games despite going 1-0 up on each occasion, according to Opta.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Spurs are on a downward spiral, Ozil's former team Arsenal are scaling new heights with Mikel Arteta in charge. They sit firmly at the top with a two-point lead over Liverpool and nine ahead of their bitter cross-town rivals after a last-gasp victory over Luton Town in their latest outing. And the German playmaker being one of the revered figures among Arsenal supporters could not hold back from taunting their derby rivals.

WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM AND ARSENAL?

Tottenham were leading the pack in October but November have been cruel to them. In the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were given the marching orders and lost James Maddison and Micky van de Ven to injury. They are now level on points with Manchester United and one ahead of Newcastle United, whom they are set to host on Sunday afternoon. They will be desperate to arrest their slide and bounce back to winning ways but might have to do the job without Son Heung-Min who is a doubt for that game. Meanwhile, Arsenal will return to action a day earlier against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
