Bayer Leverkusen 'monitoring' Antony as Erik ten Hag plots reunion with Manchester United flop who thrived at Real Betis

The Brazilian, who arrived at Old Trafford under Ten Hag's leadership in 2022 for a fee exceeding £80 million, is now being evaluated as a potential addition by his former manager in the Bundesliga, as revealed by Sky Sports Germany. While Leverkusen's interest in Antony is still at an early stage, the Dutchman's familiarity with the 24-year-old could be a decisive factor should talks progress.

Antony's stint in Spain, however, reignited interest in his talent. The winger netted nine goals in 24 starts across all competitions, establishing himself as a reliable contributor in Betis' campaign, firing them to the final of the Conference League.

Leverkusen's interest in Antony is, in part, due to the growing uncertainty surrounding the future of Florian Wirtz. The Germany international has emerged as one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe, with Liverpool leading the race to sign him. The Merseyside club recently tabled a £105m ($143m) offer for Wirtz, although Leverkusen are holding out for closer to €150m (£126m/$171m). Should that deal go through, Leverkusen will need to act swiftly to fill the creative void Wirtz would leave behind.

Adding to the competition for Antony’s signature, Italian giants Juventus are also believed to be weighing a formal move. The Serie A club placed the winger on their radar earlier in 2025 and are reportedly mulling over whether to escalate their interest with a concrete bid.
