Barcelona player ratings vs Real Betis: Hansi Flick's men throw it away AGAIN! Manager sees red and Lamine Yamal brilliance for nothing as late Assane Diao strike earns hosts a point

Barcelona were once again pegged back by their opponents this weekend, having been done so by Celta Vigo in November, as they threw away a lead late on to draw 2-2 with Real Betis.

Betis enjoyed a strong showing in the first half, creating chances and asking questions, but they were caught out after 38 minutes, as a beautiful move saw Pedri find Jules Kounde down the right flank, and his cross was tapped in by Robert Lewandowski from close-range.

Betis once again came out strong in the second half and Barca were indebted to Inaki Pena, who made more than one excellent save, particularly when it came to denying Vitor Roque.

After the hour, Roque screamed for a penalty as he was seemingly pushed to the ground by substitute Frenkie de Jong in the box, and a lengthy VAR check followed before a penalty was given. The Dutchman was booked, while manager Hansi Flick was sent off. Giovani Lo Celso scored from the spot.

And with nine minutes remaining, Ferran Torres finished after a superb assist from Yamal, although the offside flag was raised. A VAR review confirmed the goal, though, leading to huge celebrations from the bench.

There was one twist left, as Betis equalised in the very last-minute; a superb touch from Assane Diao sending the ball into the bottom corner.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Inaki Pena (8/10):

Made a brilliant early save to deny Betis as they went through one-on-one and later got down remarkably quickly to keep out a low drive from Roque. Had no chance with either Betis strike.

    Jules Kounde (7/10):

Superb ball in for Lewandowski's opener. Always gets himself forward, even if it does leave some space in behind.

    Pau Cubarsi (5/10):

Seemingly unsettled by Betis' ferocious press, which is forgivable. Unable to dominate in the air as he usually does.

    Inigo Martinez (5/10):

A little more solid in defence than Cubarsi due to his experience. Takes such good care of the ball, even when under pressure but go nowhere near Diao for his winner.

    Alejandro Balde (4/10):

Repeatedly out of position, and Betis found some real joy down his side. Barca's weakest defender.

    Midfield

    Pedri (7/10):

Picked the lock with a gorgeous pass for Kounde before his cross for Lewandowski. Rotated in the second half as Flick tried to freshen things up.

    Marc Casado (6/10):

Pinned down by Betis' press. Mucked in well defensively but couldn't impact things further up the pitch.

    Dani Olmo (6/10):

Brilliant long-range drive forced a good save. Strong defensively, passed the ball well, and was subbed on the hour.

    Attack

    Lamine Yamal (9/10):

Heavily involved, consistently shimmying his way down the right flank. An absolutely world-class assist for Torres won the game. He's a stone-cold killer.

    Robert Lewandowski (7/10):

Showed his striker's instinct with a superb run to meet Kounde's cross and finish. Held the ball up fantastically well, battled through every duel, and was subbed with 15 minutes to go.

    Raphinha (6/10):

Cleared off the line after just two minutes. Went at Betis when he could but this was a quiet performance.

    Subs & Manager

    Ferran Torres (7/10):

On for Raphinha. Had the opposite impact to De Jong, scoring the winner late on. A fine cameo.

    Frenkie De Jong (5/10):

On for Olmo. First contribution saw him give away a penalty as he appeared to shove Vitor Roque to the ground in the box. A nightmare cameo.

    Pau Victor (6/10):

On for Lewandowski. Barely impacted the game.

    Gavi (N/A):

    On for Pedri late on.

    Hector Fort (N/A):

Replaced Balde as a late change.

    Hansi Flick (5/10):

Sent off after his protestations over the penalty. Taking Olmo and Raphinha off appeared strange in the moment, and it robbed Barca of most of their attacking threat, even with Torres' goal. He was left watching on from afar as his men once again bottled it. He simply has to find a way to see these games out.
