'América players have a price, and it must be paid' - Las Aguilas manager Andre Jardine addresses Brian Rodríguez transfer rumors

Brian Rodríguez’s recent form continues to attract attention - but América head coach André Jardine insists the club won’t let him go unless the right offer comes in. The Uruguayan winger, who scored twice in América’s 3-1 victory over Xolos, is reportedly being pursued by Inter Miami and Qatari side Al Rayyan, the latter having submitted a $7 million bid. Rodríguez now has two goals and an assist in the opening weeks of the Apertura 2025.

Jardine addressed the transfer speculation head-on.

“Brian is a top-level player - not just for América, but for any team. I see him enjoying his time here. When we spoke about the interest from other clubs, he seemed calm and happy," Jardine said. "He’s still developing, he’s a national team player, and like everyone here, he has a price. If a club wants him, they’ll have to meet that price."

Jardine stressed that if América were to lose Rodríguez, the replacement would need to be carefully chosen - and quick.

“We know it’s tough to replace a key player midseason, but not impossible. Transfers can influence a player’s mindset. With someone like [Julián] Quiñones, the offer was three times what we could match. We couldn’t compete with that level of freedom and money.”

América’s current transfer activity is tied closely to potential outgoings. Another uncertain case is that of Javairô Dilrosun, who is on loan at LAFC. The MLS side is reportedly unlikely to trigger the purchase clause, and should the Dutch winger return to Coapa, the club would look to move him elsewhere, as he is not part of the team’s long-term plans.

So far this summer, the club has added three new players and brought back two who had been out on loan. However, Jardine confirmed they are still looking to add one final piece to round out the squad.

“We’re working on one more signing. The idea is to be precise - bring in someone who not only fits our footballing needs but also adds to the locker room. We’ve done our research. We’ve faced these players before, asked around, and we believe we’ve chosen well so far,” Jardine explained.

With their first win of the season in the bag, Las Águilas now shift focus to a major test. They’ll head to Los Angeles on Friday to take on Toluca in the Campeón de Campeones match, set for Sunday at Dignity Health Sports Park.
