  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Real Madrid and current Atletico Madrid striker Morata had a frustrating night on Tuesday as Spain were held to a 3-3 draw by Brazil in a friendly clash at Santiago Bernabeu. As the Spaniard was getting subbed off in the 81st minute, a section of the Spain fans in the stadium jeered at the captain, who failed to get on the scoresheet or have any real impact on the game.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The hosts took a two-goal lead through Rodri and Dani Olmo's strikes but Rodrygo pulled one back for his team five minutes before half-time. 17-year-old Endrick then restored parity for his team before Rodri converted yet another penalty. Finally, Lucas Paqueta scored the all-important third goal in stoppage time to ensure that the spoils were shared.

  • WHAT DE LA FUENTE SAID

Addressing the misbehaviour of certain fans, the Spanish coach said: "It hurts my soul that in my country, the captain of the national team is being whistled at. I feel pain. The [crowd at the] Bernabeu has been incredible, but as a Spaniard, I feel ashamed when a player from Spain is whistled. But the vast majority of fans have supported Spain. It is everyone's job to educate in supporting the national team. Here we have to leave aside the colours of the clubs, and that is a job for the press. Let's see if we can all solve this."
