    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Switzerland international already boasts experience of gracing the grandest of stages, having represented her country at the 2023 finals in Australia and New Zealand. She will also be hoping to form part of plans for a home European Championship in 2025.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Beyond that, attention is already beginning to drift towards the next World Cup. It has been announced that the 2027 finals will be staged in Brazil. The South American nation has become a spiritual home of football, but has never hosted the biggest spectacle in the women’s game.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

That is about to change, with Lehmann already looking forward to a historic event that is the best part of three years away. She will be able to lean on partner Luiz for advice on what to do and where to go in Brazil, with the Villa midfielder preparing to form part of his country’s squad at this summer’s Copa America.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Lehmann has reached a half-century of appearances for Switzerland and is, as a superstar of the WSL, a key part of their plans heading forward. They have, however, only qualified for two World Cups in the past (2015 and 2023) so will need to raise their game in order to deliver on Lehmann’s dreams of jetting off to Brazil.
