Revealed: Antoine Griezmann’s surprising release clause that has MLS teams interested – with Atletico Madrid’s World Cup winner previously seeing Lionel Messi reunion at Inter Miami speculated on

The France international, who helped his country to World Cup glory in 2018, was once at the centre of a €120m (£102m/$130m) deal, as he traded life in the Spanish capital for that at Barcelona in the summer of 2019. Things did not play out as planned at Camp Nou, allowing Griezmann to retrace professional steps.

He returned to Atletico for just €20m (£17m/$22m) in 2022, following an initial loan agreement, and showed last season that he remains a force to be reckoned with by registering 24 goals through 48 appearances in all competitions.

Griezmann is now 33 years of age, but L’Equipe reports that he is still attracting interest from MLS and leading sides across Europe. That is due in part to the fact that he can be lured away from Madrid for just €15m (£13m/$16m).

Any deal in 2024 appears unlikely, though, with Griezmann having said of his future while preparing for European Championship duty: “I have had offers and calls but I have been clear – I want to stay at Atletico. I made a lot of effort to come back and be accepted. I want it to be my last club in Europe.”

Griezmann has previously admitted that a stint in the United States would appeal to him, with it already suggested that he could be reunited with former Barca team-mate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami when the day comes to bid farewell to Atletico and Europe.
