Neymar: It's hard to explain what makes Lionel Messi the world's best

The Brazilian cannot hide his admiration for his illustrious colleague, although he struggles to say just what makes him such a fearsome player

Barcelona star Neymar could not hide his praise for team-mate Lionel Messi as he recognised it is near impossible to pinpoint what makes the Argentine the best player in the world.

Neymar and Messi have formed a stunning partnership at Camp Nou over the last four years, which has only been improved with the addition of Luis Suarez after the Brazilian's first season.

And speaking exclusively to Goal, Neymar affirmed there was no doubt his colleague had no peer in world football - even if he cannot explain exactly what makes him so good.

"You can’t really say what makes Messi the best in the world," the Brazilian signalled.

"He’s simply exceptional, quick, intelligent, a great finisher, can dribble like no other with speed or in short spaces. It’s just magical!

"He’s also very generous, he doesn’t have that “wanting to be the best” aspect, that must-score attitude. He also presents you with opportunities to shine as well. Living with Messi has made me a better professional.

"To watch him training, on the dressing room, how serious he is facing every challenge helped me grow up. I’m lucky to have him as a friend, as an idol!"

When asked via email last week about their relationship away from the pitch, however, Neymar preferred to focus on the unforgettable matches the pair have played together; most recently that incredible 6-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain that capped one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history.

PSG need the best, like Neymar - Emery

"Aside from having some curious stories off the pitch, nothing compares to the joy of some of our victories with Barcelona," the 25-year-old attacker signalled.

"You mentioned that comeback against PSG. There’s nothing we’ll ever do off the field that could beat that moment. The hug we had, and how we celebrated with the fans after the match is a great story, isn’t it?"
