He was penciled into the third spot Monday and patrolled left field, a spot he manned while Riley Greene took on DH duties for the day.
Greene, who leads the Tigers in nearly every major offensive category, continues to be the engine of Detroit’s lineup. The young star has already mashed 26 homers, tallied 84 RBIs, and is batting .269. First baseman Spencer Torkelson is holding his own as well, clubbing 23 homers and driving in 63 while usually hitting fifth. The Tigers’ young core is starting to show why there’s reason for optimism in the Motor City.

Behind him, catcher Ryan Jeffers provided more punch from the heart of the order, going deep for the eighth time this season. As for Byron Buxton, he remains sidelined on the injured list, and with familiar names like Carlos Correa, Ty France, and Willi Castro shipped out at the trade deadline, Minnesota’s lineup has a bit of a new look heading into August.
