Juan Soto and the New York Mets are set to face off against Steven Kwan and the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night at Citi Field, as both teams look to gain ground in a tight playoff race.

The Guardians enter the matchup on a high note, fresh off a 10-inning, 7-6 victory over the Mets on Monday. Cleveland’s bats came through when it mattered, with Gabriel Arias launching a clutch home run and Brayan Rocchio swiping a base to help edge out the win. Though they went just 9-for-39 at the plate and struck out nine times, the Guardians made their opportunities count.

The Mets, meanwhile, are aiming to bounce back after that extra-inning heartbreaker. New York tallied 11 hits in 42 at-bats, and while the strikeout count reached double digits, Pete Alonso’s long ball and a stolen base from Cedric Mullins gave fans something to cheer about.

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch New York Mets vs Cleveland Guardians MLB game, plus plenty more.

New York Mets vs Cleveland Guardians team news

New York Mets team news

On the mound for New York will be southpaw David Peterson, who’s been lights out at Citi Field this year. The 29-year-old enters the game with a 7-4 record, 2.83 ERA, and 1.24 WHIP through 21 starts. At home, he's been especially dominant, boasting a 5-0 mark with a sparkling 2.00 ERA across 11 starts.

The Guardians will counter with right-hander Gavin Williams, who’s coming off a stellar outing in which he blanked the Twins over six innings while striking out eight. The 26-year-old holds a 6-4 record and 3.33 ERA on the season. While his overall numbers are solid, Williams has struggled a bit on the road, going 1-2 with a 4.03 ERA in 10 road appearances.

Offensively, Cleveland has leaned on José Ramírez, who leads the club with a .299 average, 23 home runs, and 61 RBIs, good for 15th in homers and 42nd in RBIs across MLB. Steven Kwan remains a steady table-setter, hitting .283 with 20 doubles and nine homers, while Carlos Santana and Kyle Manzardo have added depth to the lineup despite modest averages.

Cleveland Guardians team news

Juan Soto continues to be a driving force in the Mets lineup, leading the team with 25 home runs. Across the league, he’s tied for 11th in that category and sits 31st in RBIs. Soto’s bat has stayed warm lately, with hits in four straight games and a .263 average over his last five contests. He’s also added an RBI and drawn a walk during that span.

Speaking of firepower, Pete Alonso has been an offensive anchor for the Mets, slashing .266 with 25 homers and 90 RBIs, the latter ranking second in the majors. Francisco Lindor is also heating up, hitting .350 over his last five games while collecting five RBIs, two doubles, and a homer to go with a four-game hitting streak.

Brandon Nimmo has chipped in with consistent production as well, batting .257 with 21 doubles and 19 home runs on the season.
