Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres will square off against Corbin Carroll and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday evening at Chase Field, as both clubs continue to chase their postseason ambitions.

The Padres are still firmly in the playoff mix as the second half of the season unfolds, holding tight to the final National League Wild Card berth. They're nipping at the heels of the Mets, trailing by just a single game in the standings. Within the NL West, the race remains wide open, with San Diego sitting only three games behind the division-leading Dodgers. However, they dropped the series opener in Arizona, managing just a pair of runs in the defeat.

On the flip side, the Diamondbacks are doing their best to stay afloat in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. After winning their last three contests, including two over the A’s and a solid win in Monday’s series opener, Arizona has built a bit of momentum. Even so, they remain eight games back of the final Wild Card slot. Corbin Carroll played a starring role in Monday’s 6-2 win, collecting two hits and driving in a pair of runs to power the offense.

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres MLB game, plus plenty more.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres team news

Arizona Diamondbacks team news

For Arizona, Geraldo Perdomo has quietly put together an impressive season at the plate, leading the club with 75 RBIs despite being far from a power threat. He ranks 11th in MLB in RBIs, even though his home run count places him outside the top 100. Corbin Carroll continues to flash his pop with 22 home runs, good for 20th in the majors, while Ketel Marte has been Arizona’s most consistent hitter with a .288 average. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has chipped in with modest numbers as well, hitting .244 with 12 long balls.

Veteran righty Anthony DeSclafani gets the call for Arizona, making just his third start of the year after mostly working out of the bullpen. The 35-year-old enters with a 4.91 ERA and a solid 24-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His last outing didn’t go as planned—he was tagged for four earned runs in just 2.1 innings against the Athletics.

San Diego Padres team news

Manny Machado continues to be the engine of San Diego’s offense, leading the team in home runs (20), RBIs (72), and batting average (.299). Across the league, he ranks ninth in batting average, 30th in OBP, and 20th in slugging, proof that he's doing damage in every way imaginable. Tatis Jr. has added 17 homers, 63 walks, and 19 doubles to go with a .264 average, while Luis Arraez has been on a tear, hitting .415 over his last 10 games and stretching his hit streak to 16 games. Xander Bogaerts is also contributing steadily, carrying a four-game hit streak into the opener while batting .270 with 24 doubles on the year.

San Diego, meanwhile, will hand the ball to Nestor Cortes, who’s set to make his debut with the Padres after being acquired from Milwaukee. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn’t pitched since early April and has just two appearances under his belt this season. He impressed in his first outing, shutting down the Reds, but was roughed up by the Yankees in his second start, surrendering eight earned runs.
