The Denver Broncos (2-0) head south to Caesars Superdome on Aug. 23 for a preseason clash with the New Orleans Saints (0-1-1). Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm EDT in New Orleans.

The New Orleans Saints still haven’t settled on who will be under center come Week 1, and the clock is ticking.

Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters Tuesday that the quarterback race between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough remains “really, really close,” adding that he isn’t ready to crown a starter just yet, though a decision is expected soon. The duel was thrust into the spotlight after veteran Derek Carr shocked the football world by retiring rather than undergoing shoulder surgery, leaving the door wide open for the two young passers.

Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos continued their sharp preseason form, cruising to a 27-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals at Empower Field on Aug. 16. It was Denver’s second exhibition contest, another step in fine-tuning before the regular season.

New Orleans Saints vs Denver Broncos team news

New Orleans Saints team news

For the Saints, all eyes remain on the quarterback derby. Rookie Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener are all technically in the mix, though the real tug-of-war looks to be between Shough and Rattler. Both youngsters have logged heavy snaps this preseason, each earning a start and producing nearly identical stat lines — guiding the offense to a touchdown and a pair of field goals apiece.

Talent isn’t the question here — potential is bubbling in both arms. What New Orleans is craving, though, is stability. The QB who can command the huddle, keep the chains moving, and string together extended drives will likely seize the job.

That said, shaky offensive line play hasn’t made things easy on the young passers, as consistent pressure has clouded the Saints’ ability to truly evaluate either one. Protecting them better against Denver will be key to getting an honest read.

Denver Broncos team news

On the other side, Denver is expected to roll out its starters after shelving Bo Nix and most of the first team in last weekend’s 27-7 rout of Arizona.

Head coach Sean Payton explained his approach, noting he plans to give the starters "eight to ten plays" in New Orleans before pulling them.

Tight end Evan Engram, who saw nine snaps against the Cardinals, is expected to be joined by more familiar faces in limited action as the Broncos tune up for Week 1.
