How to watch today's Dallas Mavericks vs San Antonio Spurs NBA game: Live stream, TV channel, and start time

The Dallas Mavericks open their 2025–26 NBA campaign against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, October 22, at 9:30 pm ET, a matchup that marks the beginning of a new era for both Texas franchises.

For Dallas, the offseason brought seismic change. The departure of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers closed one chapter, while the arrival of Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, signaled the dawn of another. The former Duke phenom is already being touted as a once-in-a-generation prospect, and the Mavericks are ready to make him the face of the franchise for years — if not decades — to come.

Meanwhile, San Antonio also turns the page on a legendary chapter of its own. After more than two decades at the helm, Gregg Popovich has officially stepped away from coaching, bringing to a close one of the most storied tenures in NBA history. In his place steps Mitch Johnson, Popovich's longtime assistant, who now takes the reins with the goal of building on the foundation left behind.

Below, GOAL brings you everything you need to watch the Mavericks vs Spurs game today.

Mavericks vs Spurs Team News & Key Performers

Dallas Mavericks

Despite entering a rebuild of sorts, the Mavericks still boast a roster that can contend right now. Anthony Davis remains a dominant force on both ends of the floor, though he'll need time to adjust to the protective goggles he's set to wear permanently after undergoing eye surgery over the summer.

Kyrie Irving is recovering from injury and expected to rejoin the team in January, but the front office ensured continuity by signing D’Angelo Russell, who will handle playmaking duties in the meantime.

Once fully healthy, Dallas' starting lineup looks loaded. Klay Thompson is still on board, and in this setup, he should enjoy plenty of open looks from beyond the arc. However, all eyes will be on Flagg, whose rookie performance could define the Mavericks' ceiling this season.

If the 19-year-old can hit the ground running and perform at an All-Star level alongside Davis, Irving, Thompson, and Russell, Dallas could quickly rise into the Western Conference elite. Head coach Jason Kidd also put pen to paper on a contract extension before the season tipped off, putting an end to any uncertainty about his future. Depth-wise, P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford provide solid support, though the team remains cautious with Dante Exum, who continues to battle knee issues.

San Antonio Spurs

At the heart of that foundation is Victor Wembanyama, the 7ft 4in French superstar who looks ready to dominate in his third season. Fully recovered from a shoulder-related blood clot that ended his previous campaign early, Wembanyama is expected to take another leap after averaging 24.3 points and a league-best 3.8 blocks per game last year.

The Spurs are equally excited about their blockbuster trade acquisition, De’Aaron Fox, brought in to form a dynamic partnership with Wembanyama for the future. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the pair in action together — Fox is sidelined until early November with a hamstring injury.

When healthy, though, that combination could be electric. Around them, Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle make up a balanced, youthful rotation. Veteran bigs Kelly Olynyk and Luke Kornet have also joined to bolster the second unit, while Chris Paul opted to end his career elsewhere with the Los Angeles Clippers.

De’Aaron Fox and Jeremy Sochan will miss the opener for the Spurs.
