The Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) will wrap up their 2025 preseason slate at Arrowhead Stadium this Friday, August 22, when they welcome the Chicago Bears (1-0-1).

Chicago comes in riding some preseason momentum. After opening with a 24-24 draw against Miami, the Bears steamrolled Buffalo 38-0 on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams impressed in his first extended action, looking composed in the pocket and confident running the offense. Against the Dolphins, the former No. 1 pick went 6-for-10 for 107 yards and a touchdown in just two series. While much of his production came against Buffalo’s second unit, Williams’ poise and progress compared to last summer have been clear signs of growth.

Kansas City, meanwhile, is still searching for its first preseason win. The Chiefs dropped their opener 20-17 to Arizona before falling 33-16 against Seattle. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and several other key starters have yet to take the field, leaving opportunities for backups to get extended reps. Quarterback Gardner Minshew provided a highlight in the loss to Seattle, tossing a one-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Chicago Bears team news

Kansas City Chiefs team news

The Kansas City Chiefs are still searching for their first preseason win after dropping their first two outings. They opened with a narrow 20-17 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals before being outclassed 33-16 by the Seattle Seahawks. Notably, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and several other key starters have yet to see the field. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew provided one of the few bright spots, connecting for a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter against Seattle.

On the defensive side, Kansas City’s rookie class had a rough night. Defensive end Ashton Gillotte, tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, and cornerback Nohl Williams all endured growing pains. The Chiefs were gashed on the ground throughout the first half, with the linemen unable to slow the run, Bassa fooled by misdirection, and Williams leaving the game with a concussion.

Head coach Andy Reid has already hinted that the starters will suit up in Friday’s preseason finale against the Chicago Bears, since it’ll be their last live action before September 5. Still, once Mahomes and company check out, Kansas City’s depth will face a stern challenge against a Chicago defense that has looked sharp all preseason — from first-stringers down to reserves.

Chicago Bears team news

The Bears, meanwhile, have shown steady progress. They played Miami to a 24-24 draw in their opener, then steamrolled the Buffalo Bills 38-0 last weekend. Rookie star Caleb Williams looked the part in his debut, completing six of 10 passes for 107 yards and a touchdown across two drives against Miami.

While much of his production came against Buffalo’s second unit, Williams looked calm, polished, and far ahead of where he was at this time last year.
