Hailing from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Adam Thielen carved out his path at Minnesota State–Mankato before embarking on a decade-long run with the Vikings, where he cemented himself as one of the franchise's all-time greats. After being released in 2022, the veteran wideout is now back in purple, stepping into a receiving corps thinned by Jordan Addison's three-game suspension and a rash of preseason injuries.
If the next couple of weeks go smoothly, Thielen has a real shot to line up opposite Justin Jefferson when Minnesota opens its season under the lights against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 8.
During his first stint with the Vikings, Thielen hauled in 534 receptions, trailing only Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Randy Moss on the team's all-time list. Even in his final season with Minnesota — the first under Kevin O’Connell — he caught 70 passes, proving he could still produce at a high level.
His familiarity with O'Connell's system makes him an ideal fit at a time when the Vikings are scrambling for healthy targets. Rondale Moore was lost for the season with a knee injury in the preseason opener, while Jalen Nailor has been sidelined since mid-August with a hand issue.
Adding to the comfort factor, Thielen has already built some chemistry with rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, having trained alongside him the past two summers in a group of Minnesota-based pros who sharpen their skills together before camp.
