Chelsea defender Levi Colwill claims ‘VAR has something against me’ after Scott McTominay’s winner for Man Utd wasn't disallowed

The 20-year-old started at left-back once again while wearing the captain's armband as the Blues took on Erik ten Hag's side at Old Trafford, but the evening was disappointing for both the defender and his teammates.

Colwill felt upset, convinced that McTominay's header, which turned out to be the game-winning goal, ought to have been disallowed. Alejandro Garnacho's cross was headed towards McTominay, who brushed off Colwill at the back post. Video assistant referees looked to see if the midfielder from Scotland had fouled. Colwill thought that if the positions had been reversed, a penalty would have been issued, but the goal remained since it was judged that there was not much contact.

"VAR has something against me right now, I don't know what I've done to them," Colwill said to club media. "Against Brighton, they tried to give a pen, and then when I got pulled [by McTominay] they didn't give anything. If I had pulled him like that they would have given a penalty. It is what it is.

"It was a frustrating night. We had chances that if we'd taken would have made the game quite different, but it's part of the game and we'll move on from it come the weekend against Everton."

Chelsea now sits tenth in the Premier League and is eleven points off of the top four as a result of the loss. Mauricio Pochettino conceded that his team was easily second best in the 2-1 loss, calling it a "fair" outcome. He also hinted that Chelsea was fatigued from playing 45 minutes last weekend against Brighton with 10 men.

A mouthwatering Carabao Cup quarterfinal against Newcastle is one of the six games left for the Blues before 2024. They will next be in action when they take on Everton on Sunday, December 10.
