The Arkansas State Red Wolves (2-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) hit the road for Mobile, Alabama, on Tuesday night, where they’ll square off against the struggling South Alabama Jaguars (1-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) at Hancock Whitney Stadium. It’s a matchup between two programs desperate to turn the tide as the Sun Belt season heats up.
Arkansas State finally stopped the bleeding last weekend, outlasting Texas State 31-30 to snap a four-game skid. The Red Wolves haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard this fall — their 23.3 points per game rank just 102nd nationally — and their defense hasn’t done them any favors either, allowing a hefty 31.7 points per outing (120th among FBS teams). Still, the win showed some grit that’s been missing in recent weeks.
South Alabama, meanwhile, continues to spiral. The Jaguars have dropped five straight since their opening-day victory, falling 31-24 to Troy last week in another game that slipped away late. Despite flashes of promise, they just can’t seem to close out tight contests. Offensively, the Jags sit 91st in scoring (25.0 PPG) but boast a top-30 rushing attack, averaging 380.5 total yards per game — though their air game has sputtered, ranking 110th in the nation.

South Alabama vs Arkansas State news & key players
South Alabama Jaguars team news
On the other side, South Alabama will once again put its faith in quarterback Bishop Davenport, who's thrown for 1,063 yards, nine touchdowns, and four picks. He’s been sacked 12 times but has shown flashes of poise under pressure.
The real heartbeat of this offense, though, is running back Kentrel Bullock, who's bulldozed his way to 496 yards and five touchdowns, leading a ground game that's been the team's most consistent weapon. Behind him, a trio of backs has added 187+ yards each, keeping defenses guessing. Out wide, Devin Voisin has been the top option, racking up 501 yards and four touchdowns as Davenport’s favorite target.
On special teams, kicker Hamilton DiBoyan has been reliable, converting 14-of-15 PATs and 6-of-7 field goals, with a long of 47 yards. Defensively, Christopher Wallace Jr. has been everywhere, tallying 43 tackles, while lineman Tyler Thomas leads the pass rush with two sacks. The Jaguars' defense has struggled to generate turnovers — just two interceptions — but has at least matched Arkansas State with seven sacks on the season.
Arkansas State Red Wolves team news
For Arkansas State, sophomore quarterback Jaylen Raynor remains the engine of the offense. He's slung it for 1,451 yards with eight touchdowns against four interceptions but has been under siege all year, taking 20 sacks already. The backfield is a three-headed rotation — Devin Spencer (200 yards), Raynor himself (196 yards), and Kenyon Clay (194 yards) — combining for six scores on the ground.
Out wide, Chauncy Cobb has been the go-to target, hauling in 406 yards worth of passes. On special teams, Clune Van Andel has been money, perfect on 17 extra points and 7-of-9 on field goals, including a booming 51-yarder. Defensively, AG McGhee leads the charge with 35 tackles, while three Red Wolves share the team lead with 1.5 sacks apiece. The defense as a whole has produced seven sacks and four interceptions — not dominant, but opportunistic when it counts.
