The first chapter in the annual battle for the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy kicks off in Week 6, with Navy squaring off against Air Force

The Midshipmen, who broke a five-year drought to reclaim the hardware last fall, are not only aiming to defend their crown but also to keep their spotless 4-0 record intact when they host the 1-3 Falcons on Saturday.

This rivalry usually sets the tone for the entire service academy series. In fact, over the past 53 years, the victor of Navy–Air Force has gone on to hoist the trophy more often than not. That was the case in 2024, when Navy snapped a four-game skid to Air Force before toppling Army in the 125th meeting of that iconic rivalry to secure bragging rights.

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch the Navy vs Air Force NCAAF game, plus plenty more.

Navy vs Air Force team news & key players

Navy Midshipmen team news

Navy continues to roll. The Midshipmen improved to 4-0 after grinding out a 21-13 win over Rice at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. For the first time since 1978–79, Navy has opened back-to-back seasons with four straight victories, and they’ll look to keep that momentum alive against their fiercest rivals.

Quarterback Blake Horvath again carried the load, rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns, while fullback Alex Tecza bulldozed his way to 105 yards on just 11 carries. Navy piled up 455 total yards—283 on the ground—marking their fourth consecutive outing with 450-plus yards of offense, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 2015. On the injury front, TE Cody Howard, WR Casey Smith, and SB Victor Listori are questionable, while SB Tyler Bradley has been ruled out.

Air Force Falcons team news

The Falcons, however, arrive in Annapolis licking their wounds after a brutal three-game skid in conference play. Their latest stumble was a 44-35 shootout loss at home to Hawaii, where the game exploded in the fourth quarter with both sides combining for 41 points.

Making his first career start, quarterback Liam Szarka put on a one-man show, completing 10-of-12 passes for 278 yards while also rushing 17 times for 139 yards. In total, Szarka accounted for a staggering 417 yards—an Air Force single-game record. He wasn’t alone, though, as wideouts Cade Harris and Quin Smith each eclipsed the century mark with a touchdown apiece. Key names to watch on the injury list include QB Josh Johnson and WR Jonah Dawson, both listed as questionable.
