The Nebraska Cornhuskers (5–1) are packing their bags for a Big Ten showdown on Friday, heading into Huntington Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (4–2).
Nebraska has come out of the gates strong this season, taking care of business in four of their first five games. The Huskers rolled through Cincinnati, Akron and Houston Christian to open the schedule, but their momentum took a hit with a tight 30–27 loss at home to Michigan.
Minnesota, meanwhile, has had a more up-and-down path to this point. The Gophers started by taking down Buffalo and Northwestern State, stumbled on the road against California, then bounced back with a narrow victory over Rutgers. However, Ohio State handed them a humbling 42–3 defeat, exposing some major cracks just as conference play heats up.

Minnesota's beatdown from Ohio State was tough to watch. The Gophers’ offense was completely bottled up, producing only 162 total yards, averaging just 3.2 yards per play, and moving the chains a mere 11 times. They went a brutal 1-for-11 on third-down conversions. Defensively, they couldn’t slow the Buckeyes either, allowing 474 yards and 21 first downs in the lopsided defeat.
However, Minnesota bounced back at home against Purdue. Despite trailing 20-13 entering the fourth quarter, the Gophers responded with a 14-0 surge to pull out a 27-20 comeback victory. Quarterback Drake Lindsey posted a 21-of-45 passing line for 232 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Darius Taylor had a quiet day on the ground with 32 yards on 14 carries but made up for it through the air, leading the team with six catches for 67 yards. Lemeke Brockington also made an impact, hauling in four receptions for 61 yards and a score to help seal the win.

In the matchup with Michigan, Nebraska’s offense sputtered for most of the afternoon, putting up just 261 total yards with 15 first downs and converting only 5-of-13 on third-down attempts. Fortunately for the Huskers, their defense came up clutch and kept them within striking distance when it mattered most.
Fast forward to last weekend’s duel with Maryland, Nebraska found itself in a hole again, trailing 31-24 after three quarters. But just like a team with something to prove, the Cornhuskers flipped the script in the fourth, ripping off a 10-0 run to steal a 34-31 comeback win. Quarterback Dylan Raiola put up a wild stat line, going 20-of-29 for 260 yards with four touchdowns, but also three interceptions. Emmett Johnson powered the ground game with a monster performance, ripping off 176 yards on 21 carries. Nyziah Hunter took over through the air, hauling in five passes for 125 yards and a pair of scores in the rally.
