The one-cap England international has now teed up six efforts for grateful team-mates during a productive loan spell in Spain. He has also registered five efforts of his own, but did not need to get on the scoresheet during a dramatic win at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

He almost squeezed home Getafe’s second of the game, with a strong run and low drive squirming through Celta Vigo goalkeeper Vicente Guaita before Jaime Mata was on hand to tap in from on the line.

Getafe threw away a two-goal lead with only five minutes left on the clock, but Greenwood had one more important contribution left in him and swung over the cross which Mata somehow looped into the net off his shoulder – with his second of the match wrapping up a 3-2 triumph.

Greenwood will see out the campaign on Getafe’s books, with a season-long deal agreed, and a decision on his long-term future is set to be made in the summer. United are expected to sanction a permanent transfer, with there plenty of interest to be found in Spain – with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid said to be among the 22-year-old’s suitors.
