  • Hojlund's struggles continue at Man Utd
  • Drew another blank against Wigan
  • Keane slams Danish striker for missing chances
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The striker drew a blank on Monday evening as the Red Devils eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Wigan in the FA Cup, thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes. Despite being in the right place and at the right time, Hojlund could not find the back of the net as several chances went begging in the first half. He missed a header from point-blank range and squandered another golden opportunity from around five yards out, which led ITV pundits to criticise him.

  • WHAT KEANE SAID ABOUT HIM

While Ian Wright and Roberto Martinez were more sympathetic towards Hojlund, United legend Keane roasted him and accused his colleagues of being too kind to the striker.

"I heard Ally [McCoist] say you feel for him, and as a striker you do. But there are some of the chances that we've seen in this game you have to take them," the former Arsenal striker said at half-time.

Portugal head coach Martinez shared the same thoughts: "He's such a committed player and gives you so much. I think it's unfair now just to judge him on goals but of course, he's a No. 9 for Manchester United, he has a big price tag. You have to score goals. But he is not doing anything wrong on those chances. In a moment of confidence, the ball hits you and goes into the back of the net."

However, Keane disagreed with both and said: "You're too kind, you're too kind, I'd be fuming with him. Tonight, they [Man United] brought their habits from the Premier League in terms of missing chances, and not being clinical. I want to see that side of United tonight. With the striker, he's missing his chances, so we can say unlucky, oh dear. Create opportunities, put them in the back of the net, stop messing about!"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Later in the show, Wright did acknowledge that Hojlund must bring back his scoring boots as quickly as possible and criticised his technique in front of goal.

While analysing Hojlund's missed header, Wright said: "This one is the one where I would be losing sleep over because you could see it all the way over on your head. He's got a good position here all the way on his head just as he's gonna head it. He puts his head down it comes up the top of his head. He's got to come off his forehead. You've got to you got to punch that forward."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Hojlund has scored just six goals in 24 appearances across competitions this season. Five of them have come in the Champions League and only once has he found the net in the English top flight in over 1000 minutes of action for United.

    WHAT NEXT FOR HOJLUND?

After another disappointing performance for United, Hojlund will hope to get on the scoresheet when the Red Devils host Tottenham on January 14 at Old Trafford in a blockbuster Premier League encounter.
