PSG hit with partial stand closure punishment after fans displayed shocking banners calling former player Adrien Rabiot's mother derogatory name during Le Classique with rivals Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain have been sanctioned by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) following offensive chants and banners targeting former player Adrien Rabiot's mother, Veronique, during last month's clash with Marseille. The LFP has ruled that the Auteuil stand at Parc des Princes, where the offensive banners were displayed, will be partially closed for the match against Le Havre later this month. However, the stand will remain fully open for this weekend's game against Angers.

Rabiot received a hostile reception from PSG fans during his first return to the Parc des Princes in March with Marseille, following his contentious exit in 2019. One banner read: "Loyalty for men, betrayal for whores — like mother, like son."

The France international was relentlessly booed and jeered throughout the match, where he captained PSG's biggest French rivals, Marseille, leaving his mother, Veronique, furious. "I don't understand why the match wasn't stopped. I don't understand why no one is outraged. I'm really outraged, outraged, really outraged by what can be said and written, without anyone reacting," she said.

After the incident, the entire France national team coaching staff, including manager Didier Deschamps, along with several players, expressed their support for Rabiot and his mother, Veronique, during a training session in the recent international break.

Having booked their place in the Coupe de France final after beating Dunkerque 4-2 earlier this week, Les Parisiens will turn their attention towards this weekend's Ligue 1 clash against 14th-placed Angers. Luis Enrique's side can wrap up the league with six games in hand as a draw would be enough to help them gain an unassailable lead at the top of the table.
