Mason Greenwood matches Chelsea legend Didier Drogba with fast start to life at Marseille - but ex-Man Utd forward fails to find the target in Angers win

One-cap England international Greenwood, who is in the process of switching allegiance to Jamaica, hit that mark through 20 appearances in Ligue 1. He burst out of the blocks in 2024-25 when finding the target on five occasions through three fixtures.

There has been the odd dip since then, but the 23-year-old has generally been able to maintain impressive individual standards. He has a further three goals to his name since the turn of the calendar year, with Marseille keeping themselves in contention for Champions League qualification.

Greenwood’s exploits are seeing him keep pace with Marseille great Drogba, who burst onto the scene at Stade Velodrome before going on to savour Premier League and Champions League title triumphs in England with Chelsea.

While Greenwood has been in impressive form, he failed to hit the net during Marseille’s latest outing. Roberto De Zerbi’s side were able to pick up another win regardless, as they battled their way to a 2-0 victory away at Angers.
