Man City & Liverpool eye January bids for Dani Olmo amid Barcelona's failed attempt to register Spain international

Barcelona have hit a major roadblock with La Liga rejecting their attempt to register Olmo before the January deadline. Despite the setback, Olmo's agent, Andy Bara, assured fans that the player intends to remain at Barcelona, stating they are "not considering any other option" for now. However, the situation is precarious, and if unresolved, Olmo could explore opportunities outside of Spain.

According to Sky Sports Germany, City and Liverpool are among the clubs closely monitoring the developments. Both Premier League powerhouses have reportedly shown interest in the 26-year-old, particularly if his current predicament with Barcelona forces him to leave. Olmo's agent has been assessing potential options as a contingency, given the uncertainty surrounding his future at Barcelona. While a resolution with La Liga remains the priority, the lure of the Premier League could make England a likely destination if he decides to move. Meanwhile, German champions Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in Olmo, although they may wait until the summer transfer window to make their move.

Olmo's departure would have significant financial repercussions for Barcelona. If the club fail to register him and he opts to leave, they would still owe the forward £41 million ($51m) in wages, as stipulated in his contract, which runs until 2030. Additionally, Barcelona remains obligated to pay RB Leipzig £47m ($59m) as part of the original transfer agreement when they secured Olmo’s services.

Barcelona are set to face lower-league side Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on Saturday, followed by a crucial Supercopa de Espana semi-final clash against Athletic Club. However, Olmo’s involvement in these fixtures remains uncertain due to the unresolved registration issue.
