'I have an eight-inch ulcer!' - Ryan Reynolds jokes stress of Wrexham promotion push is also causing 'receding hairlines' as Red Dragons aim to secure Championship spot

The Deadpool star recently enjoyed another trip to SToK Racecourse for the Red Dragons’ 3-0 victory over Burton Albion. Fellow co-chairman Rob McElhenney was then in attendance as he joined passionate travelling supporters in the away end at Blackpool.

Phil Parkinson has seen his side reclaim second spot in the League One table, which would be enough to secure a Championship standing for 2025-26 if two more fixtures can be successfully navigated with the minimum of fuss.

All of the drama is being caught on camera for the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, which will soon be returning for a fourth series, but Reynolds admits that riding an emotional rollercoaster is beginning to take its toll.

Speaking at the TIME100 Summit, Reynolds said: “The stress is killing us all. Oh my God! I literally have an eight-inch ulcer in my stomach right now. It's the end of the season, and it all comes down to the next two weeks. They just can't do it easily. For just one year, let's do it without having receding hairlines all around.

“We're all losing it and the stress is killing us all. Everyone keeps saying that [it makes for better TV] but that's not a consolation at all - winning is.”

While Reynolds is feeling the heat, he continues to lap up the passion that professional football brings. He added: “Everybody feeling the same thing at the same time at the same moment is a very bonding experience and Wrexham is no different. You've got two different disparate political parties and it's very divided.

“Everybody goes in there [the stadium] on that day and suddenly they all have their arms around each other. They're wearing the same colour shirt, and they're chanting and singing the same songs. I just think it's a beautiful thing that is a little undervalued.”

Reynolds and McElhenney completed their stunning takeover of Wrexham in 2021. They have overseen a meteoric rise since then, smashing transfer records along the way, and are looking to make history in 2025 by becoming the first EFL side to savour three successive promotions.
