The Championship set for US takeover? Tom Brady's Birmingham sensationally backed for League One promotion alongside Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney's Wrexham

The big-spending Blues can count NFL legend Brady among their investors, with ambitious plans being drawn up in the West Midlands. A positive start to the 2024-25 campaign has Birmingham sat at the top of the League One table.

Wrexham, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney calling the shots, occupy second place after picking up 23 points from 11 games. They did suffer defeat to Birmingham in the first ‘Hollywood Derby’ of the season, but will be out for revenge when welcoming their fellow promotion hopefuls to North Wales in January 2025.

The Red Dragons are being backed to make history this season by securing a third-successive promotion. The supercomputer used by CSDB.gg to predict the outcome of remaining fixtures – with a simulation run 1,000 times in order to remove any anomalies – has Wrexham securing a runners-up finish.

They are being predicted to end on 87 points – with a thrilling fight to the finish seeing Lincoln, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Bolton settle for play-off spots. Birmingham are expected to run away with the title, but may fall narrowly short of becoming third-tier centurions as the prediction software has them collecting 98 points.

Promotion would see Wrexham, Birmingham and the famous faces in their respective boardrooms reunited in the Championship, as both clubs chase down the ultimate goal of reaching the Premier League. They boast plenty of quality on their books, with the likes of Paul Mullin, Elliot Lee, Jay Stansfield and Alfie May leading charges up the EFL ladder.
