A touching moment! Andros Townsend holds up Tom Lockyer's jersey after goal in tribute to Luton captain following cardiac arrest

The Hatters skipper suffered a cardiac arrest during last weekend's Premier League game at Bournemouth - with the match eventually being abandoned. The defender was discharged from hospital this week and is now recovering at home. Winger Townsend then paid tribute to the 29-year-old when he ran to the touchline to pick up one of Lockyer's shirts and held it aloft after giving Luton the lead against Newcastle on Saturday.

Lockyer has had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator device fitted, which is a small battery-powered tool placed in the chest that detects and stops irregular heartbeats. To restore a regular heart rhythm, it delivers an electric shock. Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has been fitted with the device and has been able to continue playing. However, Luton manager Rob Edwards says it is "too early to tell" what impact this cardiac arrest will have on his career.

Lockyer collapsed during the Championship play-off final win against Coventry City in May before being taken to hospital. He was given the all-clear to return to playing a month later after having heart surgery.

It remains to be seen if Lockyer will be able to return to football in the future. For the time being, he will continue his recovery at home.
