Bio: If you can’t make a living from playing the game, then make one writing about it. I did my best to tick the first of those boxes, but it was not to be. I have been working hard at the latter for the best part of two decades and joined the collection of international stars that make up team GOAL in 2016. I am now Senior Staff Writer, which means my days are spent covering everything that the sometimes weird and often wonderful world of football has to offer. I have always been a fan of mercurial talents and love an underdog story, which goes some way to explaining why - alongside my East Midlands roots - Nottingham Forest are (for better or worse) my team of choice.

My Football Story: From the local playing field with friends, all through school, representing teams at various levels and facing a number of future professionals, to endless hours spent at the City Ground, a university degree and professional employment that has taken me to iconic venues across the country, football has always been the thread that ties my past, present and future together. I wouldn’t have it any other way and consider myself fortunate that I have been able to pass my passion for the game down to my son, who now finds himself heading down a similar path.

Favourite Footballing Memory: I was too young to have witnessed Nottingham Forest’s European glory years and not yet old enough to have seen them add a third star to that famous Garibaldi shirt, being at Wembley as a 23-year wait for Premier League football came to a close will always be a special experience. I don’t remember much about the game itself, given the nerve-shredding nature of play-off finals, but the celebrations afterwards made enough memories to last several lifetimes.

    They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Cristiano Ronaldo has grown accustomed to seeing his iconic goal celebration mimicked down the years. Screams of ‘Siuuu’ are no longer reserved solely for the Portuguese GOAT, with LA Rams wide receiver Davante Adams leading Wembley Stadium in a rendition of that during the latest instalment of NFL International Series games in 2025.

    Neymar, who is nursing another injury at present, was brutally trolled by a domestic rival in the Brazilian top-flight while watching Santos suffer a potentially damaging defeat to Vitoria. Matheuzinho registered the only goal of the game in that contest, and took to breaking out Neymar’s iconic goal celebration after hitting the net. Brazil’s all-time leading scorer was left less than impressed in the crowd.

    Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has earned a maiden call-up to the Portugal U16 squad, with the talented teenager continuing his impressive rise through the youth ranks with club and country. Cristiano Jr is, like his superstar father, currently on the books of Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr. Eye-catching performances in the Middle East are allowing international selections to be earned.

    Lionel Messi has another record to add to his collection, with the history books being rewritten in MLS. The Argentine GOAT continues to deliver magical performances for Inter Miami on a regular basis. The most recent of those saw him net a hat-trick against Nashville, with those heroics earning the South American icon a historic Player of the Matchday award.

  5. 'Outraged' Atletico lodge formal complaint about the Emirates

    ‘Outrage’ in the Atletico Madrid camp is said to have seen the Liga giants lodge a formal complaint to UEFA about Emirates Stadium. The Spanish outfit are in north London for a Champions League clash with Arsenal. They trained at the Gunners’ famous home on Monday, but were left without hot water on site - leading to contact being made with European football’s governing body.

  6. Brady backed to ‘repeat’ NFL success with Birmingham

    Tom Brady is being backed to “repeat” his NFL success with Birmingham City as the seven-time Super Bowl winner is “really energetic” and a “purposeful person”. Brady is accustomed to getting what he wants and, as a minority stakeholder at St Andrew’s, one of his goals now is to see Premier League football return to the West Midlands as soon as possible.

  7. Reynolds & Mac to spend again? January transfer prediction

    Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are being tipped to spend again at Wrexham, with Tony Pulis making a January transfer prediction. He expects further reinforcements to be sought in the next window, but has warned the Red Dragons - who are taking aim at a place in the Premier League - not to “anticipate a top-six finish or immediate promotion” out of the Championship.

    Wayne Rooney is backing Harry Maguire for a World Cup recall with England after seeing the Manchester United defender come through “bullying” that saw him become a “meme” at one stage. The commanding centre-half has not enjoyed the easiest of times at Old Trafford, but he was given plenty to smile about when netting a dramatic winner against Liverpool last time out.
