With Lionel Messi expected to return to action, Inter Miami gear up for a blockbuster clash against Mexican giants Tigres UANL in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals at Chase Stadium on Wednesday night.
Javier Mascherano's star-laden Miami side head into the tie riding high after a convincing 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy last weekend. That result continued their strong run of form, with the Herons dropping just two of their last 11 matches across all competitions since bowing out of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Tigres, meanwhile, stumbled in Liga MX play, falling 3-1 at home to Club America in their latest outing. The defeat came just a week after they ruthlessly dismantled Puebla in a 7-0 rout. During the group stage of this tournament, Tigres posted six points from three games, closing the round with a defeat to LAFC but still showing their attacking prowess.

Team news & squads
Inter Miami CF team news
Lionel Messi made his long-awaited return from a hamstring setback in Inter Miami's win over LA Galaxy, though coach Javier Mascherano opted to ease his skipper back by keeping him out of the starting lineup. With Thursday’s clash looming, however, the Argentine talisman is expected to be in from the first whistle.
Summer recruit Rodrigo de Paul was also held in reserve over the weekend, but with his visa issues now resolved, the midfield maestro looks primed to feature in the starting XI against Tigres.
Tigres team news
On the other side, Tigres have a few selection headaches of their own. Holding midfielder Bernardo Parra remains a doubt, and should he miss out, Juan Brunetta and Fernando Gorriarán are likely to form a double pivot in the center of the park.
Up front, Uriel Antuna appears to have slipped out of Rafael Pizarro’s immediate plans, paving the way for Diego Lainez to take up a spot on the wing. Meanwhile, in defense, fitness concerns linger over versatile full-back Jesús Angulo. Should he be sidelined, youngster Jesús Garza could be handed a start at left-back.
