With the playoff race heating up in the NWSL, Gotham FC is eyeing a vital three points on Sunday as it welcomes the Houston Dash to Red Bull Arena.
Sitting eighth in the table with 20 points (5-5-5), Gotham currently clings to the last postseason spot, holding a slim one-point cushion over the North Carolina Courage. Juan Carlos Amoros' side has strung together a season-high four-game unbeaten run, highlighted last week by a gutsy scoreless draw against the Washington Spirit after playing more than an hour with 10 players. The clean sheet was Gotham's sixth of the campaign, and defensively, they've been tough to crack at home, conceding just seven times, tied for the fourth-best mark in the league.
The Dash, meanwhile, enter the weekend in 12th with 15 points (4-8-3), five adrift of the playoff line. Houston has shown some fight lately, going unbeaten in its last two outings, including a dramatic 2-1 win over North Carolina sealed by Sophie Schmidt's stoppage-time strike. Road form, however, has been an issue: the Dash are tied for the league’s fourth-worst away record and haven’t claimed three points on their travels since May 11 in Seattle, failing to win any of their last three road matches.

Team news & squads
NJ/NY Gotham FC team news
Honestly, Gotham FC should be sitting higher up the table. Injuries and patchy form have thrown a wrench into their campaign. Nobody expected them to replicate the highs of 2024 after so many roster shakeups, but with the talent at their disposal, the Bats ought to have picked up a few more wins by now. That's why anything short of three points on Sunday would feel like a letdown.
Ann-Katrin Berger was rock-solid between the posts last weekend, making three key saves to secure a shutout against Washington — her 13th career clean sheet in regular-season play.
Houston Dash team news
This clash also sets the stage for a bit of a reunion, with former Gotham players Yazmeen Ryan, Delanie Sheehan, and Abby Smith returning to New Jersey in Houston colors. Ryan's trade and Sheehan's move were both eyebrow-raising decisions during the offseason, and while the club has moved on, fans will no doubt welcome the chance to see some familiar faces back at Red Bull Arena.
The Dash, meanwhile, hit the road on the back of a dramatic 2-1 triumph over the North Carolina Courage. Kiki Van Zanten opened the scoring with a thunderbolt from distance that ripped into the top corner, while veteran Sophie Schmidt provided the late heroics, striking in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Ryan carved open the defense down the flank. Both Van Zanten and Schmidt now have goals in consecutive matches, each sitting on two for the campaign.
At the back, skipper Jane Campbell came up with three saves and a handful of vital clearances to preserve the win. Midfielders Maggie Graham and Danny Colaprico were everywhere, each racking up three interceptions, while defender Paige Nielsen tallied five clearances. Adding to the positives, defender Michelle Alozie made her first league appearance since starring for Nigeria in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph earlier this summer.
