Belgium welcome Kazakhstan in a Group J clash of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers this weekend, with Rudi Garcia looking to keep the momentum building in his early days as Red Devils boss.
The Frenchman stepped into the hot seat back in March, steering his side to safety in the Nations League with a narrow 4-3 aggregate win over Ukraine, but life in World Cup qualifying hasn't been all plain sailing.
A frustrating 1-1 draw away to North Macedonia was followed by a chaotic home tie against Wales, where Belgium somehow let a three-goal cushion slip before Kevin De Bruyne bailed them out with a dramatic 88th-minute strike. They steadied the ship at the start of this international break, however, blitzing Liechtenstein 6-0 to show glimpses of their attacking might.
As it stands, Belgium sit third in the section, one point shy of North Macedonia and three adrift of early leaders Wales. Their upcoming visitors, Kazakhstan, find themselves second from bottom with only three points to their name after narrowly falling 1-0 to Wales last time out.

Team news & squads
Belgium team news
Belgium, meanwhile, have selection headaches of their own. Amadou Onana and Romelu Lukaku miss out through injury, but there’s a big boost with Thibaut Courtois returning to reclaim the gloves after sitting out June’s fixtures. Defensively, a back four of Thomas Meunier, Zeno Debast, Arthur Theate and Maxim De Cuyper could be Garcia's preferred option. Up top, new Juventus striker Lois Openda is likely to be given the chance to lead the line in Lukaku’s absence.
Kazakhstan team news
The Kazakhs arrive with a youthful look between the sticks. Alexander Zarutsky started the reverse fixture in March, but this time, Mūhammedjan Seysen, still only on his fourth cap, is expected to be trusted in goal. Every player in their squad plies his trade either in Kazakhstan or Russia, though they will be without skipper Ashat Tağybergen, who called time on his international career in June.
