Just over a year or so ago, the New York Rangers were flying high after winning the Presidents' Trophy. The last season made a world of difference as turbulence on and off the pitch derailed their campaign and forced major changes in their roster and backroom staff. In what turned out to be Peter Laviolette's last season in charge, they were knocked out of playoff contention for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

At the eye of the storm was the captain Jacob Trouba's mismanagement. His no-trade clause situation caused unrest in the camp as the entire dressing room split into two. Artemi Panarin, the star of the team, was invovled in a sexual assault allegation as well. All these controversies led to an underperformance on the rink as the team struggled all season long.

It is not all doom and gloom, however, as the new season gives them a clean slate. Mike Sullivan was appointed as the new head coach, and he faces his ex-side, the Pittsburgh Penguins, on the opening day tripleheader. In an inconsistent Metropolitan division, the Rangers still possess one of the best rosters in the league. It's a matter of finding consistency and harmony as Sullivan looks to deliver in his first campaign.

The Rangers kick off their preseason action soon, but when does the regular season officially get underway? Plus, where can fans tune in to catch the action? GOAL brings you everything you need to know.

To see which channels you can access, plug your zip code into the FCC’s Reception Map Tool.

The best part? No monthly fees! Once you’ve got the antenna set up, you can enjoy local broadcasts as long as the device keeps going strong.

Frequently asked questions

NHL Power Play, which allows users to live stream out-of-market NHL games on ESPN+, is free of charge and part of the ESPN+ subscription. All you need is an ESPN+ package, starting at $11.99 per month, and you'll have access to over 1,000 NHL games each season.

Some games may be subject to blackouts on ESPN+. This is because a participating team is considered in-market for your location.

This is based on your geographical location. For example, if you were based in Colorado and wanted to watch the Avalanche on ESPN+, you may be subject to a blackout as the game is live on Altitude Sports, which is available within your region.

In such cases, the game on ESPN+ is made available to those with a blackout 24 hours after the game ends.

ESPN+ has exclusive rights to 75 games per season. However, a franchise may not feature exclusively on the platform more than eight times per season.
