Detroit Lions vs Washington Commanders Team News
The most significant news out of Washington's camp is that backup quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained MCL in their preseason opener against the Dolphins and will miss the remainder of the preseason. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed they are not bringing in an outside quarterback at this time, which means Sam Hartman and Athan Kaliakmanis will take on much larger roles to close out the exhibition schedule. Meanwhile, rookie Jayden Daniels continues to see his workload increase and is building chemistry with his top receivers in practice.
Getty ImagesFor Detroit, head coach Dan Campbell has been using evening practices to help his team adjust to the shifting schedules they will face in the regular season. A major area of focus for the Lions right now is the offensive line. Following an injury to Cade Mays, the coaching staff is shuffling players to test their versatility, including giving right guard Tate Ratledge valuable reps at the center position. On the skill position side, the Lions' offense continues to look explosive in camp, recently highlighted by a 60-yard breakaway touchdown run from running back Jahmyr Gibbs during team drills.
