How to watch today's Portland Trailblazers vs Minnesota Timberwolves NBA game: Live stream, TV channel, and start time

The Portland Trail Blazers will open their 2025–26 NBA campaign on October 22, hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Moda Center in what promises to be an intriguing season opener. The teams split their four meetings last year, with each side defending home court successfully — Portland winning both contests in Oregon and Minnesota doing the same in Minneapolis.

Despite showing flashes of promise, Chauncey Billups’ squad endured another frustrating season, finishing with a 36–46 record and missing the postseason once again. The Blazers were notably stronger at home, however, collecting 22 of their victories in front of their fans.

The return of Damian Lillard was a headline-grabber, though the veteran guard is expected to sit out the entire season due to injury. To make matters worse, Scoot Henderson will also be sidelined for the season opener. Portland didn’t exactly build much momentum during preseason either, dropping three of four games — including a narrow 132–129 loss to the Utah Jazz to close their preparations.

The Timberwolves, meanwhile, also stumbled through an uneven preseason, winning only two of six tune-up games under Chris Finch. Even so, expectations remain sky-high in Minneapolis after back-to-back trips to the Western Conference Finals.

Minnesota wrapped up last regular season with a solid 49–33 record, good enough for sixth place in the West, and will aim to start their new campaign on a stronger note after falling 126–110 to the Philadelphia 76ers in their final exhibition outing. With championship aspirations still burning, the Wolves will look to carry that postseason pedigree into Portland and spoil the Blazers’ home opener.

Trailblazers vs Timberwolves Team News & Key Performers

Portland Trailblazers

The Portland Trail Blazers underwent a major shake-up this offseason, parting ways with two of their key offensive contributors. Center Deandre Ayton was bought out and later signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, while Anfernee Simons was shipped to the Boston Celtics in exchange for veteran guard Jrue Holiday.

Those moves cost Portland two of its top four scorers from last season, but the arrival of Holiday brings much-needed experience, defensive toughness, and playmaking stability to the backcourt. At 35, he's no longer the dynamic scorer he once was, and his ability to handle heavy minutes at a fast pace remains to be seen, but his leadership and defensive grit should help anchor the young roster.

The Blazers also made waves by signing franchise legend Damian Lillard using their mid-level exception after he was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks to clear cap space for Myles Turner. However, the star guard continues to recover from injury and isn’t expected to take the floor this season. Fans can expect to see him supporting from the sidelines while he works through rehab.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Injuries remain a pressing concern for Portland, especially given their commitment to an uptempo, defense-first system. Along with Scoot Henderson, veterans Matisse Thybulle and Robert Williams III missed the preseason due to health issues, testing the team’s depth early.

As for the Minnesota Timberwolves, their balance between offense and defense was key to their success last season. They finished 13th in the league in scoring, averaging 114.3 points per game, while boasting one of the NBA’s stingiest defenses—ranking fifth overall, holding opponents to 109.3 points per game.

Anthony Edwards spearheaded the attack, averaging 27.6 points across 79 appearances, showcasing his rise as a true superstar. Julius Randle provided additional scoring punch at 18.7 points per game while also leading the team with 4.7 assists, and Rudy Gobert anchored the paint, contributing 12 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest. With that core intact, Minnesota enters the new campaign looking to build on its two-way dominance.
