Former Wrexham captain sends out promotion warning to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and explains why club needs a 'little bit of adversity'

In the 2023/24 season, Wrexham secured back-to-back promotions, catapulting them into League One, the third tier of English football. This remarkable ascent can be attributed to the significant investment and publicity brought in by Reynolds and McElhenney since they acquired the club in 2020. The injection of resources has transformed Wrexham from a non-league team to a competitive League One outfit, with aspirations of further promotions on the horizon.

When asked by Fozcast co-host Tom Ochoa about the possibility of another promotion next season, Tozer said: "I don't know, I think it could be possible. Yeah, there's so many ifs and buts. Obviously I hope they do, I hope they go up but then, I think the club - like we were saying about being aligned - I don't think it would be the best thing for the club to go up. Being totally honest, I think consolidate for a year even for the fans' expectations.

"The fans' expectations are so high now, even if you've got like the so-called new fans that all they expect is win, win win. You kind of think they need to see a little bit of adversity. The old fans have had all the adversities, a hell of a lot of adversity, but you need the new fans to see a little bit of adversity."

Wrexham have shown an intent to compete robustly in the upcoming season by making strategic signings. The club has already secured former Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and defender Lewis Brunt from newly-promoted Premier League side Leicester City. Additionally, the Red Dragons are reportedly pursuing Millwall duo Wes Harding and Tom Bradshaw to strengthen their defence and attack, respectively.

Phil Parkinson's squad is set to convene later in July and will play their pre-season friendly against Hanley Town on July 13. They will then fly to the United States where they will face prominent clubs like Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Vancouver Whitecaps. This tour aims to provide valuable match experience and further integrate the new signings into the team's dynamic.
