Wrexham Avengers, assemble! Could Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney invite A-list friends such as Hugh Jackman & Paul Rudd to join Hollywood board in pursuit of Premier League promised land?

The superstar actors have enjoyed quite the journey in North Wales, with a trip to Wembley and record-breaking title triumph already covered by the Emmy Award-winning ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, but they have made no secret of collective desire to reach the Premier League promised land. As rich as Reynolds and McElhenney are, especially when operating as a combined force, they do not boast the wealth of top-flight ownership groups and that may lead to further investment being sought at some stage – potentially from familiar faces.

Quizzed by GOAL on whether a Hollywood boardroom could be created at SToK Racecourse, former Red Dragons star Carlos Edwards – speaking in association with OLBG – said: “You talk about Ryan Reynolds being good friends with Hugh Jackman! You never know. Something could be in the pipeline. But too many cooks spoil the pot sometimes. But, if the right kind of cooks come in to invest, you don’t want to turn away from it. But at the same time you have to be very sensible about how you invest and get other people into the club. I know that they want to go for it. They have the facilities and the infrastructure to go to the next level, so I wouldn’t say ‘no’ but they have to be careful with how they go about it who and what they bring in to the club to invest.”

If Wrexham were to remain on their current trajectory, then hitting the big time could become a realistic target. The likes of Luton Town – who beat Wrexham in the National League play-offs back in 2012 – have shown what is possible when it comes to meteoric rises. Edwards added on the Red Dragons’ bid to rub shoulders with the elite: “It is possible, but it will take a lot. For me personally, I think it will take a long while to see the signs of them going to the Premier League. Stranger things have happened - my former club Luton – but at the same time it takes work. Steps just need to be put in place to take them to that level, because you are thinking about being League Two and then being Premier League in the next five years! It is possible, but realistically it’s not that easy on paper to go through all the hurdles. It’s easier said than done.”

Wrexham surged out of the National League last season and are now riding high in the League Two table. Back-to-back promotions are very much on the cards, with Reynolds and McElhenney continuing to invest on and off the field in a bid to ensure that no stone is left unturned in pursuit of ultimate end goals.
