The 39-year-old missed Friday's dramatic comeback draw with Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League. Initially, it was believed manager Stefano Pioli rested the Portugal international, as it would have been the veteran's third game within a week. However, new reports suggest the forward did not feature for another reason.

According to talkSPORT, Ronaldo was left out of the Al-Nassr squad as his partner Georgina Rodriguez was hospitalised with pneumonia this week. The model disclosed she had spent four days in hospital recovering but is now back home, where she will continue to rest.

In an Instagram story post, Rodriguez said: “Finally back home! I spent four days at the hospital with pneumonia, I’m better now but still recovering at home with my family. I have to say a big THANK YOU to all the staff members, doctors, nurses, and everyone at the hospital. They took care of me so wonderfully and I’m very grateful for that. Thank you all for such a great stay.”

Ronaldo could return to Al-Nassr action next Tuesday when they host Al-Taawoun in their King Cup of Champions last-16 clash. Incidentally, his side sit third in the Saudi Pro League - three points behind leaders Al-Hilal, who also have a game in hand.
