Wayne Rooney sent ‘lose a bit of weight’ advice in KSI boxing message – with Misfits leaving ‘arms wide open’ for Man Utd legend & current Plymouth boss to step into the ring

The former England captain has stepped back into management for 2024-25, as he takes the reins at Championship side Plymouth. He is hoping to rebuild his reputation there after enduring an ill-fated 83-day tenure alongside NFL legend Tom Brady at Birmingham City last season.

While Rooney remains focused on his commitments in football circles, the 38-year-old has never hidden his love for boxing. He has admitted in the past to being open to the idea of taking on a fight – with fellow ex-United star Danny Simpson preparing to face YouTuber Danny Aarons in the latest Misfits event.

Quizzed by DAZN on whether Rooney wants to get involved and what needs to happen in order to make that possible, KSI has said: “Yes, he does, but I think he's probably going to have to lose a bit of weight before he gets into the ring. But if he's actually serious about wanting to fight, then Misfits have their arms wide open.”

Rooney reportedly “begged” Matchroom Boxing supremo Eddie Hearn to line up a fight in 2023, while there were reports in February of this year regarding talks with Misfits. No show has been put in place, but a few visits to the gym could see Rooney convince promoters that he is ready to swap lacing boots for gloves.
