Wayne Rooney documentary CANCELLED! Plymouth bin plans for fly-on-the-wall series after sacking Man Utd legend amid serious fight against relegation from Championship

It was revealed on New Year’s Eve that the Pilgrims have brought Rooney’s managerial reign at Home Park to a close after just 25 games. The Manchester United legend departed having overseen just one win from his last 14 matches at the helm – leaving Plymouth languishing at the foot of the Championship table.

Plans had been drawn up for a streaming series that lifted the lid on Rooney’s tenure in Devon – with Plymouth following the lead of EFL rivals such as Wrexham and Sunderland. It was hoped that a production being pieced together by Lorton Entertainment could be sold to Netflix or Amazon Prime.

The Guardian has, however, reported on how filming was halted in December amid struggles on the field. Cameras were first welcomed to Plymouth’s Harpers Park training ground in October but were granted access to only two Championship fixtures before it was determined that they were becoming a distraction.

It is claimed that there are no plans to resume filming, with the project now being shelved indefinitely. Rooney had been the big draw for producers and potential viewers, and the ex-England captain now finds himself out of work once more.
