Wayne Rooney didn’t put Tom Brady off! Frank Lampard holds Birmingham talks as Blues line up another Premier League legend & former England star as manager

Shortly after confirmation of NFL legend Brady arriving at St Andrew’s as an investor and chairman of the club’s advisory board, the decision was taken to hand managerial reins to Manchester United legend Rooney. He lasted just 15 games at the helm before being sacked.

Birmingham went on to suffer relegation out of the Championship, meaning that they will be lining up against the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Wrexham in League One next season. A new boss is required before that campaign gets underway, with Tony Mowbray stepping down in order to focus on his health.

According to Football Insider, another Premier League icon and former England international is registering on Birmingham’s radar. It is claimed that talks have been held with Frank Lampard, with those discussions progressing positively enough that he is considered to be a leading candidate on the Blues’ shortlist.

Lampard has been out of management since bringing a second spell in charge of Chelsea, which saw him take over on an interim basis, to a close in the summer of 2023. He has also spent time with Derby and Everton, with Birmingham keen despite the 45-year-old boasting a win ratio of just 41.3 per cent across his 196-game coaching career to date.
