The former Barcelona stars ended their latest pre-season outing on a disappointing note against MLS rivals FC Dallas as Jesus Ferreira's third-minute strike proved to be the difference between the two sides. One of Miami's best chances came when Messi found Suarez with a beautiful lobbed pass over the Dallas defence. The Uruguayan timed his run to perfection and tried to score with an audacious first-time volley, but could not keep his attempt on target.

Although Messi and Suarez could not find the equaliser before being subbed off together in the 64th minute, they created several chances which kept Dallas' defence on their toes throughout the match. 2022 World Cup winner Messi almost scored an Olimpico too, but Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes pulled off an incredible save to deny him. Suarez went close on a couple of occasions in the second half but struggled to put his chances away.

After a disappointing start to their 2024 MLS season preparations in the United States, thanks to a draw against El Salvador and the defeat to Dallas, Inter Miami will look to get back on the winning track in Saudi Arabia. They are slated to face Al-Hilal on January 29, followed by a prestige clash against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, where Messi will reignite his rivalry with the Portuguese striker.
