The former England international is a colourful character who boasts a useful knack of putting smiles on the faces of those around him. While he is serious about his football, the 31-year-old has never shied away from the fact that he wants to have fun while doing a job he loves.

He was prevented from doing just that following his release by Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023. Lingard spent several months as a free agent, enduring failed trial spells at West Ham and Al-Ettifaq – while nothing came of links to teams in MLS and Ligue 1 – before finally landing a contract in the Far East.

Lingard is still adjusting to life in South Korea, following a surprising career move, but his infectious energy is already rubbing off on those around him in the FC Seoul camp. The experienced playmaker has posted on Instagram alongside a video of him playing games with new colleagues: “Can you tell I’m settled in?”

FC Seoul will be in action on Wednesday when taking in a trip to Roasso Kumamoto, with it possible that Lingard will figure in that friendly encounter before the 2024 K-League campaign gets underway in early March.
