VIDEO: Former Barcelona and Juventus star Arturo Vidal sent off after making Copa America gesture against Argentinian side Racing Club

Chile international Vidal was sent off for Colo Colo in their 4-0 Copa Libertadores defeat to Racing Club after responding to jeering Argentinian fans with a hand gesture. The former Juventus and Barcelona star raised two fingers to the crowd, referencing the two Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016 when his national team beat Argentina in both finals.

Vidal had already been booked when he reacted to the taunting, effectively ending Colo Colo's chances of progression in the Copa Libertadores. The Chilean side have managed only two points from five games so far and can no longer reach the knockout phase.

While Chile did claim shock wins over Argentina in the Copa America during the mid-2010s, Messi and co have since grown into one of the most feared international teams on the planet. La Albiceleste have claimed two Copa America titles since 2021 and were also victorious at the 2022 World Cup.

Now 37 years old, Vidal has a contract with Colo Colo which expires at the end of the year. They are down in 11th in the Chilean Primera Division but have played three games fewer than most sides in the league.
