They have been breaking records, with a new single season high being posted in the points department. Messi, when fit, has been a talismanic presence for the Florida-based outfit – hitting 22 goals in all competitions and posting 11 assists in MLS.

Inter Miami now have their sights set on ultimate MLS Cup glory, with Beckham telling those in attendance after a 6-2 mauling of the New England Revolution that saw Messi score an 11-minute hat-trick: “This was always about creating history for Miami. This was always about our family, La Familia, the people in this stadium, the people in this city.

“Tonight is about you guys, because you supported us through the tough times, and you're supporting us through the good times. Let's make this a great year – an even better year than it already is. It’s already a special club. Let's get ready for the playoffs.”

Messi and Co will enter the playoffs on October 25, when facing either CF Montreal or Atlanta United – who meet in the wildcard match. Inter Miami are aiming to lift the MLS Cup for the first time, as Beckham and the club’s ownership team look for another return on their investment of faith and funds.
