Defender facing lengthy spell on the sidelines
Had been enjoying productive loan spell
May have to sit out tournament in the States
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 23-year-old defender has rediscovered his professional spark this season during a loan spell in Eindhoven. Having been deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona, Netherlands-born Dest has thrived back in his homeland.
Dest has, however, picked up a knee problem that has cast doubt over his immediate future with club and country. A statement on PSV’s official website reads: “Sergino Dest suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury during Saturday's training session. How long the winger will be sidelined is still being investigated. That it will be an extended period is almost certain. The 23-year-old Sergino has been rented from FC Barcelona since August 2023. Since then he grew to become an important force for Peter Bosz. The American international has played 37 official matches for PSV so far. In those, he scored two goals and was the originator of seven goals.”
